Kern Medical Center a 222-bed hospital, providing a comprehensive offering of primary care and specialty clinics, and a large body of highly skilled doctors, nurses, technicians and other health-care providers. Kern Medical Center is the region's only level II trauma center and teaching hospital, serving a community of approximately 650,000 people.
The Rio Bravo Family Medicine Residency Program has an academic affiliation with the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. Under that affiliation, UCLA will provide the program with faculty appointments, faculty development, access to library and other resources, amongst other academic resources.
